Reconcile the balances that carry forward
We review bank accounts, cards, loans, customer balances and supplier balances against their support. Inventory counts, equipment purchases and customer deposits need schedules suited to the business. A booking taken before year end may still involve work in the next period.
Owner transactions, payroll balances and sales-tax accounts receive explicit attention. If a return was filed outside the bookkeeping system, its figures and payment need to be reconciled to the ledger rather than assumed to match.
Create a useful adviser package
The package can include financial reports, reconciliations, asset details, debt statements and a concise questions list. We identify unusual transactions and estimates so the adviser can review their treatment. Corporate, personal or society filing work is not assumed to be included in bookkeeping.
Illustrative example: an event crossing the year end
A Victoria event business receives a deposit in December for a February gathering and pays a venue instalment before closing its year. Separate customer and supplier schedules show the event, contractual dates and amounts. The adviser has the evidence needed to determine the year-end accounting treatment without guessing from bank descriptions.
Bring approved adjustments back into the file
When the adviser returns adjusting entries, we coordinate their posting and retain explanations. The next period should begin from the agreed closing balances. A short handover also records outstanding customer disputes, unreceived supplier credits and any recurring process that needs improvement.
